But fast forward to 2025, and just like that… those plans were scrapped.
Back to the dark ages? Not quite.
Step in, REINZ.
The Real Estate Institute of New Zealand took matters into its own hands by having the REINZ Property Management Accreditation Programme. This voluntary initiative takes the very same standards that were meant to be mandated by the government and offers a way for committed property managers to stand up and say: We’re doing it anyway.
What is REINZ Accreditation?
Accreditation is not just a tick-box exercise. It’s a mark of trust, diligence, and professionalism. It requires property managers to demonstrate not only strong industry knowledge, but the real-world ability to apply it, consistently and ethically.
It’s also a key point of difference in a crowded industry. With only 8% of property management offices in New Zealand currently accredited, it shows who is willing to go the extra mile to deliver real peace of mind to landlords and tenants alike.
